Rising ocean temperatures have led to coral bleaching, pushing coral reefs around the world into unprecedented crisis. Once vibrant and colourful, these ecosystems are now on the brink of collapse. What solutions are scientists exploring, and what can we do to help save coral reefs?
This year, the Yen Kwo Yung Lecture in Life Sciences is honoured to welcome Professor Christian R. Voolstra, Professor of Genetics of Adaptation in Aquatic Systems at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and President of the International Coral Reef Society (ICRS), to explore with us the challenges faced by coral reefs. Professor Voolstra is an internationally renowned expert in coral genomics and adaptive ecology. His research focuses on how corals respond to climate stress, the role of symbiotic microbes in coral health, and innovative strategies for restoring damaged marine ecosystems.
If you love diving, cherish the ocean, care about climate change, or simply don’t want the next generation to know coral reefs only from textbooks, don’t miss this opportunity to join the lecture!
